Ever After

Today I have the pleasure of hosting fabulous urban fantasy and paranormal romance author Kate SeRine, celebrating her latest release in her Transplanted Tales series, Ever After! Welcome, Kate!

Hi, Kait! Thanks so much for having me by for a visit. It’s always a pleasure. :)

Let’s get started with some questions. Why don’t you tell us a little about your series?

In my Transplanted Tales series, a magical duel went awry around two hundred years ago, transplanting hundreds of fairytale characters from the world of Make Believe into the human world of the Here and Now. Since then, others have come over at random, including characters from nursery rhymes, folklore, mythology, and literature. Suddenly granted the freedom to write their own stories and choose their own destinies, some of the Tales have made the most of their circumstances, but others have had a tough time adjusting. The Fairytale Management Authority (FMA) is the law enforcement bureau that attempts to keep everyone in line.

The series is a little bit urban fantasy, a little bit paranormal romance, so I hope the books will appeal to both audiences.

Kate’s series is a blast, you guys, and it’s definitely worth the read! I personally recommend every single one of her books if you love fast-paced snappy dialogue, unforgettable characters, red hot romance, and a hint of mystery! So tell us Kate, which Tales book did you have the most fun writing and why?

Aww… Thanks so much, sweetie! That’s high praise, indeed! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the series.

I have a blast writing my Tales and have really enjoyed each one. Red was probably the most fun, though. I could hear Tess’s voice so distinctly as I was writing it was if she was sitting at my side dictating her story. When I got the idea for Red I’d been in the process of writing a really dark, heavy paranormal romance (as yet unpublished), so Red was like a breath of fresh air. I just had fun with it and had a great time playing with the noir vibe. And then there was Nate Grim… Le sigh.

That said, I had a ball writing Lavender and Seth’s story, too—poor Lavender was so accident prone and her relationship with Seth was very intense and sexy. Trish and Nicky’s story was very flirty, and I also got the chance to delve a little into some light horror, which I LOVED.

And even though Ever After is a bit more serious and is a darker, more emotional story, it was so much fun to write—even when I was crying while typing. And I introduced Merlin, who has to be one of my favorite supporting characters in the series. I’d love to give him his own book at some point.

Sounds like a lot of fun! Can you tell us what reader’s have to look forward to in Ever After?

In Ever After I’m finally able to tell the story of Gideon Montrose, the mysterious and sexy fairytale bodyguard who has been wooing fans with his loyalty, honor, and gallantry since he stepped onto the page in my second Transplanted Tales novel, The Better to See You.

For centuries, Gideon Montrose has served the King of Fairies without question and, often, without mercy. So when the King orders him to track down and apprehend a notorious thief the King believes to be stealing priceless Tale relics, Gideon obeys.

Enter Arabella Locksley, a notorious thief that Gideon is ordered to apprehend only to discover she’s none other than the feisty, unpredictable woman he knew back in Make Believe as Robin Hood. Now, torn between his happiness at finding his former love alive and his anger over the lies that tore them apart, Gideon’s loyalties are put to the test. But it soon becomes apparent he’s just as likely as ever to have his heart stolen by the beautiful thief.

Fabulous! Can you share with us some authors who have influenced your writing?

Oh, wow…That’s a tough question because there have been so many, from the classics to the modern. There are a few whose characters appear in the Tales, so I suppose they’d definitely be among my influences: The Brothers Grimm, Jane Austen, William Shakespeare…

As far as influences within urban fantasy and paranormal romance, I’m a huge fan of Lara Adrian, Alexandra Ivy, and Jim Butcher.

Ever After is the last book in your Transplanted Tales series. What’s next for you? Do you have any upcoming releases?

I’m currently working on two new romantic suspense series that I’ll be releasing in 2015/2016. I can’t wait to share these new projects with everyone!

My Templar Legacy series, releasing from Kensington, kicks off with Concealed, in which a member of a covert group of modern-day Knights Templar is sent to rescue a young mother and her son from a domestic terrorist cell and soon finds himself falling for the woman who has resurrected emotions he’d thought dead and buried long ago.

There’s also Taken, the first book in my Protect and Serve romantic suspense series releasing with Sourcebooks next year. In this novel, an FBI agent who turned his back on his legendary law enforcement family returns to his hometown and is forced to work side-by-side with the woman who broke his heart.

In addition, in Spring 2015, Torn, a novella prequel to the Protect and Serve series, will appear in an anthology that includes work by some of the top names in the romantic suspense genre.

And I do hope to return to my Transplanted Tales at some point in the not too distant future. I still have a few Tales I’d like to tell! :)

Thanks so much for joining us, Kate! It was great having you! If you’re interested in Kate’s Transplanted Tales series or any of her upcoming work, you can find her at www.kateserine.com
